Credits
the artists whose work built this world
IdlePiracy uses openly-licensed art and type from independent artists and studios. Every piece below is used under its stated license — thank you to everyone who makes work like this available.
This page is generated from the game's own attribution manifest
(assets/CREDITS.json), which ships with the game itself. Nothing gets used
without a credit line existing first — if you're one of the artists below and something
looks wrong, reach out and we'll fix it fast.
Icons
67 icons ship today. Most come from game-icons.net, a library of single-color SVGs released per-icon under Creative Commons licenses; 5 fish silhouettes (sprat, herring, mackerel, pollock, swordfish) are original line art drawn for IdlePiracy, released CC0. By author:

Typeface
The display face — the wordmark and every screen heading — is
IM Fell English, a revival of a 1930s Fell Types face by
Igino Marini, released under the
SIL Open Font License 1.1 and distributed via
Google Fonts. The wordmark
itself uses the small-caps cut, IM Fell English SC, same author and license.
Both are self-hosted (copied into the client rather than loaded from a CDN) — the full OFL
text ships alongside them at assets/fonts/OFL-IMFellEnglish.txt.
| Used for | Face | Author | License |
|---|---|---|---|
| Headings, screen titles, card titles | IM Fell English | Igino Marini | SIL OFL 1.1 |
| Wordmark only | IM Fell English SC | Igino Marini | SIL OFL 1.1 |
Portraits
Two default "Sailor" portraits shown first in character creation are simple original
silhouettes drawn for IdlePiracy (CC0). The 40 curated extras alongside them are hand-drawn
ink headshots from
"60 Terrible
Character Portraits" by Jeff Preston, released under
CC BY 3.0 via OpenGameArt.org. The
original pack has 108 portraits across many fantasy/sci-fi "flavors"; we picked the 40 that
read as a plausible pirate/nautical crew (weathered, characterful, human faces) and left out
the clearly high-fantasy, monster, and sci-fi ones. See the game's
assets/portraits/MAPPING.md for the full filename-to-original mapping.
| Set | Author | Count | License |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default "Sailor" silhouettes | IdlePiracy project (original art) | 2 | CC0 1.0 |
| Curated character portraits | Jeff Preston | 40 | CC BY 3.0 |
A further 4 portraits are sourced and license-verified but not yet wired into the client —
two matched male/female candidate pairs under evaluation to replace the flat "Sailor"
silhouette placeholders above with a proper illustrated default (see the game's
assets/portraits/candidates/OPTIONS.md for the full comparison):
| Set | Author | Count | License |
|---|---|---|---|
| Default-portrait candidate pair #1 (recommended) | Joseph Hewitt | 2 | CC BY 4.0 |
| Default-portrait candidate pair #2 (backup) | Ravenmore | 2 | CC BY 3.0 |
Ship & port art
The four ship-tier mini illustrations (dinghy, sloop, brigantine, galleon — used at small sizes: the rail card, the chart's en-route marker) and the four port header vignettes (Gullport, Ironreef, Saltmarsh, The Meridian) are original flat-silhouette line art drawn for IdlePiracy, released CC0. The larger hero-scale ship art (the Ship screen and the character-creation ship-naming step) is 3D-rendered from Kenney's Pirate Kit, released CC0 by Kenney (kenney.nl) — 8 of the kit's models, each rendered through a fixed camera/lighting rig into a transparent PNG sprite.
| Set | Author | Count | License |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ship-tier mini illustrations | IdlePiracy project (original art) | 4 | CC0 1.0 |
| Ship hero sprites (3D-rendered) | Kenney | 8 | CC0 1.0 |
| Port header vignettes | IdlePiracy project (original art) | 4 | CC0 1.0 |
What's not here yet
The default "Sailor" pair is still the two original silhouettes, not one of the two licensed candidate pairs above — that's a pending art-direction decision, not a licensing gap. Separately, the Tavern's officers (including world-unique Legendary officers) reuse the curated character-portrait set above rather than a dedicated officer set; nothing unverified has been added for them. When a dedicated set lands, this page and the manifest it's generated from will grow with it.
The full machine-readable manifest ships with the game itself, so every asset's source and license travels with the code that uses it — this page is just the human-readable view of it.
